Shostakovich Centenary 2006

25 September 2006 is the centenary of the birth of Dmitri Shostakovich. Events are planned around the world to celebrate this great Russian composer, including cycles of his complete symphonies and string quartets, and a range of his music for opera, ballet, theatre and film.

As well as creating many popular works that have established themselves in the international repertoire, Shostakovich also wrote much music that remains hardly known to this day.
